Designed for various applications in mold making and casting processes

Polytek's PolyCoat Sealer & Release Agent is a product designed for various applications in mould making and casting processes, particularly with polyurethane and platinum-cured silicone rubber moulds. Here are some key uses and considerations for this product:

  1. Mold Making: You can apply PolyCoat Sealer & Release Agent to both porous and non-porous models when creating moulds. It is especially useful with polyurethane and platinum-cured silicone rubber moulds. When used with silicone rubber moulds, it can act as a release agent and sealant.

  2. Not Recommended for Tin-Cured Silicone: The product is not recommended for use with liquid tin-cured silicone rubber molds, so keep this in mind when choosing your mould-making materials.

  3. Benefit for Polyurethane Rubber Molds: When making polyurethane rubber moulds, PolyCoat can be beneficial because it leaves a dry, cured silicone coating on the surface. This eliminates the need for an additional release agent and ensures that no residual release will transfer to the cured mold surface.

  4. Improving Performance: PolyCoat can also be applied to aging silicone moulds (such as Platsil and Tinsil) to improve their performance, making demoulding easier and extending the useful life of the moulds.

  5. Creating Thin Silicone Skin on Polyurethane Molds: It can be applied to firm polyurethane rubber moulds to give them a thin silicone skin on the mold face. This allows you to cast materials like polyurethane plastics or foams without the need for additional release agents, reducing costs.

  6. Curing Time: The curing time for PolyCoat can vary depending on factors like temperature, humidity, and the porosity of the model. Cure times can range from 30 minutes to 16 hours.

  7. Application Tips: When using PolyCoat, you may need to apply multiple coats, especially on very porous surfaces, with a 15-20 minute interval between coats. It's important to seal the surface adequately but not over-apply to prevent the loss of surface details. Brushing or spraying techniques can be used, and it's recommended to avoid leaving brush marks on the surface as the product begins to gel. Excess can be allowed to run off by flipping the master over to leave a thin coating behind.

  8. Not for Use with Plaster: PolyCoat should not be used to seal plaster. Gypsum models can absorb the solvent in PolyCoat, leading to slow or incomplete curing, which may interfere with the cure of certain rubber materials.

Overall, Polyteks PolyCoat Sealer & Release Agent is a versatile product for mould making and casting, offering benefits such as improved release, extended mould life, and the ability to create silicone skins on moulds. However, it's essential to follow the recommended usage guidelines and consider the specific requirements of your project and materials.
